How Therapy Works
For General Psychiatry
Dr Oppedijk will provide you with a diagnosis and treatment options. When needed, psycho-pharmaca (i.e. medication such as antidepressants) can be prescribed and reviewed. In case specialist psychological treatment is indicated, such as CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) or DBT (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy), Dr Oppedijk can refer you to an experienced psychologist or therapist.
The cornerstone of therapy is to build a trusting relationship with the Psychotherapist and to engage in a meaningful encounter through which a process of change can take place.
The aim of therapy is to develop a more authentic, cohesive sense of self in harmony with your emotions.
Ultimately this will lead to an improvement in the relationships with significant people in your life and will give you a sense of mastery over your own destiny.
